Baby Kate's 1st birthday party

Its amazing the speed of 2013 ....

They say as you grow older the months and years pass by faster and somehow I am feeling it much.

I'm not much a fan of parties, drinking ones yes... anything else not so. As you read my last post,  am pretty much a loner. So preparing parties ain't my forte and if it was my choice, I will pay it to be done. But I have grown wiser (i think) and decided that it will be a small cozy party for Baby Kate. Made a decision to just have it at home... well, it should not be THAT difficult right?

I dread the usual function room thing (although after the party yesterday its seems like a better choice-  aircon, period).

I went slightly more adventurous and decided on a pool party. The pool at our place is da bomb and is the children's favourite place. If you come by and swim, you will somehow think you are in some resort, not exactly shangri-la but seriously beautiful place...  its like you are very much on a holiday.

So, I expanded on the pool party.. then realised that we never seem to have attended 1 pool party. Oh then realised, we never accept pool parties. Even if its all champagne all nighter, just found is too much of a hassle to bring so many things. But then... when you realised, that I do not care much of BBQ too.  You see its just me :D.

I googled much and saw how some parents go all way out for a party. Wow seems fun but logistics would kill me. But then there will always be those that go way overboard. Coming from someone who walked down the aisle without my flower bouquet coz I forgot, detailing are not much in my favour. so I decided.. Bottom line, the children must enjoy.  Took away all things that are not necessary, the balloon ppl,  the magician, the fairies, the clowns. It was not easy to take it out for , well.... what if its expected? Anyway, sought help from my mummy bloggers and man, they were a bunch when went all way out. Like OMG.... but 1 item caught my eye and it seemed like a good thing to have!  You can read on SANSES blog .

It was a HIT with the children! BB Kate had a blast in the Wet & Wild for it was so safe for her to be inside there than the waddling pool! The guys from Singapore Toy Club came by to help set up and we decided to do without the cannon water spray coz the water supply was slightly father away from the electric point. It was really simple -just an extension, a power plug for the blower and it was 3 hours of magic for the children!!! There was no danger like strings or difficult structure to climb except you still need watchful eyes around to be safe. The guys came back by 8pm to help dismantle the machine and I must say service was impeccable!

Goodie bag:

I chose my goodie bags from the impressive Daiso of course! I did some search and most of them didn't give me what I want. Something I don't do is to have sweets at a party, mainly because I can't stand when my child goes and gorges herself on sweets/cupcakes and not eat her food. If I don't like, I believe most mummies out there don't like it either. I never give sweets as any party favours for the children's birthday. Its like omg, seriously? So for  our goodie bag, I chose a water gun, a water shooter and a bubble wand and packed in a Cath Kidson inspired waterproof bag. I like it much!

Food:

We chose Botak Jones this round coz most parties have curry chicken buffet and it has become a bore.  Trev chose the menu... The fish, pasta with tomato sauce, baked cheese was a sellout. The mushrooms was aplenty and ribeye didn't go very well... not sure why? We had a children menu catered too which consists of burgers, hot dogs, ham and cheese .

MENU 4

FRESH GREEN GARDEN SALAD
DOUBLE BAKED CHEESE POTATO

GARLIC SAUTEED FRESH BUTTON MUSHROOMS BAR-B-QUED CHICKEN WINGS
SLICED NZ STRIPLOIN
CHEESE BAKED PREMIUM BASA
PASTA W FRESH GARDEN VEGETABLE TOMATO SAUCE

The above menu would run $22.00 per person inclusive of the 7% GST.

Cake:

We had to have our regular baker without fail just because the family loves her cake much. She does beautiful decorations too. I mean everyone can be a mean baker but not everyone can decorate it well right? Decoration is a skill on its own...

I decided to do without a professional photographer this round and got my trusty Nikon to do the job. We decided to take this same amount of money to do a photo shoot just with her alone. Seems like a apt birthday present from us. Till this 27th Sept and another round of photos for her actual 1st. Can't wait!

Disclosure: Flomummy and her guests would like to thank Singapore Toy Rental for their sponsorship of the Wet and Wild Castle! No monetary compensation was given and all opinions are purely mine and the guests.

Numberology

Yesterday was quite an odd day.

My landlord in my office keeps bugging us to change our unit. She was bothering my partner and insisted that we gave us our birthdate and "counted"our career path.

So mine came back as life path 7, I mean I have people counting for me before, its as common as a horoscope reading right? But interesting this time round, got attracted to what I was reading. Some how it seem to be speaking to me and giving me some answers or sort.

No 7 :

The nature of a Life Path 7 person is intellectual and introspective. You delve into everything in an effort to find out what makes it tick. You rarely accept things at face value. Rather, you must see for yourself that your own opinions are sound. When the germ of an idea is absorbed into your subconscious, you meditate and turn it over in your mind until you fully understand every aspect. Only then do you act on it or discard it. This process leads you to the discovery of great philosophical truths, which you use, in turn, to your advancement as well as in the consolation and healing of the troubled. You’re psychic—you possess a certain knowing—and often experience déjà vu, a sense of having lived a certain experience before.
Yours is the role of philosopher, teacher, and healer, but it’s not easy for you to teach until you loosen up a bit. Your reserved nature gives people the impression that you’re unapproachable. Only those who understand your quiet, contemplative moods can get through to you. These are the fortunate ones because you have so much to give.
Your interests are mainly cultural and philosophical—you pursue the intellectual. The finer things in life are as necessary to you as the air you breathe. All things beautiful capture your keen interest: a well done painting, a beautiful sculpture, or a good book. You’re the rare individual who enjoys every stroke of the brush in a painting, not just the overall effect. Because of this trait, you’re a connoisseur of the finest ilk. Life Path 7’s make excellent parents because they teach their children to appreciate all of the beauty that life has to offer, both in an intellectual and a physical sense.
Your reserved manner wraps you in a mantle of dignity. Respect from one and all is your heritage, and you accept it with grace. Because you have to face a wide brushstroke of obstacles, life is often disappointing to you, but you see disappointments as opportunities to delve into the hidden truths of life and use this knowledge to better yourself and your life. This spiritual and practical knowledge you glean is your vehicle to happiness.
Never hurry—take the time for rest and meditation. There’s no need to be concerned by economics, for you generally have what you need. The fate of the mystic, as for a 7, is to study, question, apply, and teach the secrets of the soul. As such, Providence always take care of your material needs. This is a rare gift and should be used well.
The Life Path 7 suggests that you entered this plane with a gift for investigation, analysis, and keen observation. You’re a thinker of the first order. You evaluate situations quickly and with amazing accuracy. As a result, you’re thorough and complete in your work—the perfectionist who expects everyone else to meet a high standard of performance, too.
A Life Path 7 person is a peaceful and affectionate soul. But you guard your connection to people carefully. It’s easy for you to detect deception and recognize insincere people. When you do, you give them a wide berth. You aren’t one to have a large circle of friends, but once you accept someone as a friend, it’s for life. Most 7’s are charming and refined individuals with great poise and a quick wit.
Nonetheless, there’s a certain reclusiveness about you. While others enjoy being around you, you don’t necessarily enjoy being around them. Your reserve is often mistaken for aloofness, but there’s no rush. It takes time for you to warm up to new friends. Clubs and organizations hold little interest for you—you’re not a joiner.
You enjoy your own company—you actually thrive on being alone, away from the hustle and bustle life. You need a good deal of quiet time to be with your own inner thoughts and dreams. You dislike crowds, noise, distractions, and confusion.
As mentioned before, the keynote of 7′s strength is reflected in their depth of thought. 7’s garner knowledge from practically every source they find. Intellectual, scientific, and studious, you don’t accept a premise until you have dissected the subject and arrived at your own independent conclusion.
7 is considered a spiritual number and it often denotes a spiritual wisdom that becomes apparent at a fairly early age. A built-in inner guidance system provides you with a strong sense of intuition—almost a law unto yourself. Whatever spiritual position you take, traditional ornot, you cling to it with fervor. Once you’ve decided on an issue, you’re tenacious. It’s almost impossible to get you to revisit the question. Adaptability is not your style, and change for you is a rarity.
Rather than accepting advice, you rely on your own experiences and your intuition. Your hunches usually prove to be accurate, and knowing this, you confidently follow the directions they guide.
The Shadow SideYour shadow side has you leaning toward moodiness, standoffishness, and secretiveness—none of which furthers your image. As a result, many people find you cold and unemotional, making it difficult to enter relationships. Worst case scenario, you may also be devious and calculating.
In the most negative use of the 7 energies, you can be pessimistic, lackadaisical, quarrelsome, and secretive. A Life Path 7 individual who’s not living life fully and gaining through experiences, is a hard person to live with because of their lack of consideration for others. Operating on the negative side of the 7 can produce a selfish and spoiled individual and living with one can be a challenge. This may be why some 7s prefer living alone.
Fortunately, the negative 7 is not the typical 7, at least not without some mitigating positive traits. This number is one that seems to have some major shifts from highs to lows. Stability in feelings may be elusive for you.
Famous People with Life Path 7Paula Abdul, Muhammad Ali, Dan Aykroyd, Joan Baez, Christian Bale, Antonio Banderas, Candice Bergan, Valerie Bertinelli, Robert Blake, Ellen Burstyn, Eric Clapton, Glenn Close, Harry Connick, Jr., Geena Davis, Johnny Depp, Leonardo Dicaprio, Shannen Doherty, Michael Douglas, Fran Drescher, Carmen Electra, Carrie Fisher, Mel Gibson, John Goodman, Kelsey Grammer, Hugh Grant, Charles Grodin, Ethan Hawke, Tommy Hilfiger, Janet Jackson, Keria Knightley, Angela Lansbury, Heath Ledger, Lyle Lovett, Ewan McGregor, Toni Morrison, Al Pacino, Matthew Perry, Natalie Portman, Julia Roberts, Susan Sarandon, Jerry Seinfeld, Danielle Steel, Patrick Stewart, Emma Thompson, Tanya Tucker, and Naomi Watts.
Life Path 7 CompatibilityThe Life Path 7 person has a natural fit with 1, 5, and 7. They get along well with Life Path 4. They’re neutral with Life Path 9, but they find a challenge (or need to compromise) with Life Paths 2, 3, 6, and 8.
Its a crazy read, coz most people don't quite understand why I LOVE eating alone, hanging by myself. I dig this personal time so much. I do agree I think alot but have learnt to mediate to clear my mind now. Its interesting to note I trust my intuition alot, always though coz I am a scorpio and there is a mystery air around me. But I always live the moment like its a dejavu, ALWAYs. Its like aiyo I have experienced this before. The spiritual part sort of not really me, but I do note that I have and are becoming more aware of my universal calling. Which is definitely NOT something I think I would agree to be, for when I was young like everyone else has a rebellious streak in me and never believe anything. I always tell Trev theses are all Self Fulfilling prophecies, but not at this age.. I have grown accustomed to my messages that un willing appear in front of me and I usually just accept it. Interesting it always work out well.
You can read more at this website which I found to have one of the most comprehensive explanations.

Barbie Live 2013

{Review}

I believe all girls like Barbie, some more than the others. I played them much when I was younger but was not much into the stories of it. Barbie was a doll, a branded doll... those where the days when I was told that by cutting off her hair will guarantee faster growth and I may have spent too much of my days washing those with shampoo in attempt to ensure and maintain her locks. Like many of us, the dolls got ruined and we moved on to the next one. V is not any different. She has one that has the prettiest hair and is now a mess.

We were invited to watch Barbie Live 2013 and although V has many Barbie DVD, I never really sat down to watch 1 show in detail. But I do know that besides its pretty face, it does teach good values.

I brought along my niece

A shop that I spent a little too much
I admit I was a little distracted in the beginning and was doing my stuffs. But eventually settled in to watch and I am actually very pleased with what they offered.  Amidst the loud music and dancing which was on a set of Hollywood , or rather "Barbiewood", it was about Barbie encouraging her BFF Teresa about not doubting her self of her theatrical abilities and that she must be confident.

Barbie uses lessons learned from her Princess movies : Swan Lake Princess and the Popstar and Mariposa & The Fairy Princess to teach her best friend to be brave, believe in herself and embrace the power of true friendship. I must say the sawn lake part was a surprise to V for thats like her favourite scene of one of Barbie movies. Ya I know..Swan Lake at 4 years old, right? I mean remember V used the word masquerade ball at 3 years old? Too much Mickey mouse = very comprehensive vocab.

There was a 15 mins break between scene which I was surprised just because I expected a 1 hour show and this lasted almost 2 hours !!! If you are planning to bring to watch something, this is a good choice for the production is really well done. There was a lot of interaction with the audience which kept the children excited.

I did a "debrief" during the intermission and the ending. There were many values that were taught and I took this opportunity to explain and how better help them with character building.

This dance-inspired musical is on from 10-14 September 2013 before they move on to travel around Asia,Australia, Europe and USA. This is their world premiere and don't miss out watching them this week!

Prices are $35, $55, $75, $95, $125 (excluding booking fee) and is held at the MasterCard Theatres of Marina Bay Sands (my favourite theatre!!) Its 2 hours including a 20 minutes break, children under 1 without a seat is free :D

 Go and have fun!!

Disclosure: FloMummy was invited by Nuffnang to watch this musical. No monetary compensation was given and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Cross roads

This last 2 week has been draining for my emotions. Crap stuffs happen and then I start to question myself and my abilities. Do you do that much? I go through this some times, of course it got lesser recently but I'm human and we falter right?

The thing about women is there are too much emotions then we rake up unnecessary feelings that is kept deep until we decide to unleash it. I hate how I feel but its just something I have to go through in order to feel better. Being a coach, I do need to be coached somehow and praised. But the longer u are in the business, its like "oh this is how u are suppose to be." Oh well... I just have go through it.

Here are something I read and leave by...

1. Don’t compare your life to others and don’t judge them; you have no idea what their journey is all about.

2. Don’t act the way you are feeling. Instead, act the way you want to feel.

3. Make peace with your past so it won’t screw up your present.

4. Don’t answer ads that promise get-rich-quick schemes because it won’t be you who gets rich quick.

5. You can’t do everything yourself, so get help along the way.

6. Don’t envy what others have; you don’t know how they got it.

7. If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say.

8. Be comfortable only outside of your comfort zone.

9. If you are going to jump off a bridge, make sure you know how deep the water is.

10. Change only what you can change and let go of the rest.

11. What others think of you is none of your business.

12. Never test the depth of the river with both feet.

13. Honesty is a very expensive gift. Do not expect it from cheap people.

So I will have to wait out till this feeling passes... till then I have been watching TVB series "Triumph In the Skies 2" So nice la.. aiyo I miss flying man. Have you watch it yet? I have the links if u need them :P. Ya I have been riding out this emotion with the help of series, I love how it keeps my brain away from wallowing with negativity! The love stories are just soooo endearing and may I add Francis Ng's acting are to die for. Although I think he looks like a cartoon sometimes but he has this ability to enthrall me in his web of love issues is to die for . hahahha! Oh and it was the last episode yesterday and now I need something to do!

Maybe I should do part time flying hahha. Just that day I told my girlfriends that if they have contact to let me work in a cafe or restaurant just 1 x a month! I miss dishing out stuffs and talking to customers. I know it sounds odd but I love and appreciate service much. You know.. we don't get it much in Singapore. My skills are a dying trade...

Now with my skills in
1. Mentoring

2. Sales

3. Customer service

4. Entrepreneurship

5. Server in food service industry

6. Grooming

7. Personal development

8. Style coaching

9. Sensitive to Needs

10. Resilience to complains

11. Team player
12. Motherhood

I should be able to find some thing really fun for me to do isn't it?

Daddy's accomplishments

As a mother and wife, I am really proud of my husband Trevor Ng.

At about 10 years ago, Trev decided to start his company just because he didn't find that ideal job when he returned from his overseas education. I was there when he made a decision to do this business, all by himself. I saw how he went to his office diligently daily and figuring out the technicalities of "A" business. Business in many aspect, from those who are in corporate, seems like a bed of roses with no complicated politicking and politics. But I beg to differ because business has a wide spectrum of learning and the learning curve is steep. Books and practical are totally different, a struggle because a entrepreneurial goes through emotions, money factors and the thought of "this may not be what I should do" Do you agree with me?

Walker Safety Products PTE LTD was incorporated in Singapore in 2003 is a distributor and supplier of a wide range of intelligent fire safety and security products commonly used for residential, commercial and industrial purposes.

The company's prime focus is to provide total solutions to the fire and security protection industry by striving to ensure the highest safety and quality standard whilst maintaining competitive prices.  Our areas of specialisation can be clearly categorised into 2 parts of being Fire Protection and Security.

With a customer base spanning the whole of ASEAN and parts of the Indian Continent, we pride upon ourselves as a professional outfit that is knowledgeable in its trade and is reasonable in fulfilling enquires from customers. We have been proven to ensure product reliability and quality with realistic delivery time to meet our customers' requirements. We stay committed in maintaining long term relationship with both our valued customers and suppliers!

I have seen how he has persevered for the last 10 years and may I had, I deserve a pat on my shoulder for walking through this process with him. It was not easy when we didn't have enough to pass through our days. Didn't seem like it now that you look at us right? I can only say it was a tough road that we chose that time, but I believe that God gave us those challenges to make us better lovers and greater parents.

We went for the Promising SME 500 Gala 2015 and here are some photos to share with you.

Excerpts from the article:

With a background in business marketing and real estate, Mr Trevor Ng likens his career- changing switch to the business of safety and fire protection ti that of "setting foot into a big jungle" " I even lacked the basic knowhow in either mechanical or electrical engineering, and here I was treading in technical things like air sampling detection systems and CCTv- related products" says Mr Ng, who has previously found scant joy trawling a lacklustre job market.

But rather than be a prey in an an unforgiving environment, he went on the offensive. Walker Safety Products was established on 2003 and Mr Ng wisely chose to stick to what he knew best. He restricted himself to supply and distributed and focused on exporting to the South-East Asian market, a risky proposition at best considering the fluctuating economy during tat particular period.

The big break arrived in 2006, when a major disaster in Vietnam resulted in the enactment of a law decreeing that all buildings had to contain fire safety equipment - business boomed as the company's annual turnover soared to $600,000, with Mr Ng expanding his team and products range significantly Waker Safety now has representative supplying and installing its fire and security products - spanning high-ends brands such as Siemens, Paradox Security Systems and Wagner Gmbh- in countries like Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

In the coming years, Mr Ng hopes to preside over annual growth in the 15-20% range, with the ultimate dream of selling the company and starting a brand-new firm. The metaphorical jungle was not so big after all.

Up close and personal

What made you take the brave step of starting your business?

My dad cajoled me to do something myself, and also because I simply couldn't find the right job. Even when I eventually settled into what was a perfect fit, my contributions were hardly recognised. In my own company, all the decision-making, ideas and strategies implemented are done by a team or myself, so when it becomes successful, I derive much satisfaction and a sense of achievement.

You were entering uncharted territory. What were some challenges you faced?

Trying to procure financial resources was tough as no local banks were wiling to render financial aid. As a new start up, people has little faith in me and I decided to take a small loan from my dad. The first two and a half years, I could not even draw a proper basic salary because of slow business, while at the age of 28, earning the respect of my clients and staff was not easy, let alone selling something to them.

What are some of your best selling products?

The security intrusion alarm products for houses, retailers/boutiques, banks and convenience stores. As for the fire products, it has to be the fire- extinguishing products, which are commonly used in sever rooms, substations, banks, and even Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) rooms.

What would you say are the key factors in staying competitive in this particular industry?

Responsibility remains high on our list, because in this business, ensuring that he products are installed, maintained and used correctly are of paramount importance, Selling quality products - those that are able to last a lifetime- comes into play, and because I deal with wide variety of cultures around the region, I have to be culturally sensitive in my business dealings and remain 100% honest. Its our business to protect and save lives and assets, safety and security must never be compromised.

Sambal Pasta

I posted this on FloMummy Fb page and had great responses just because it looks very yummy!!

I must give credit to my girlfriend Tracey Khalid-Cherbonnier who posted her mummy's famous Sambal Pasta and I HAD TO HAVE IT. Of course, she got it for me and man it was under what we can addressed as an Easy Peasy Singaporean recipes!

So here it goes:

Sambal Pasta

Rempah (Paste):

1.  100 grams Dried Chilli
2.  4-5 pieces of Purple Onions
3.  1/2 slab of Belachan
4.  Blend the above.  (Makes 2- 3 rounds)

Preparation:

5. Grind Haybee (dried shrimps)
6. Boil 1 pack of macaroni Al dente.
7. A packet of clean tau gay (bean sprouts)

How to :

8. Prepare oil
9. Fry hay bee
10. Add rumpah till fragrant
11. Add taugay
12. Add macaroni
13. Add ketchup (LOADS)
14. Add slight black sauce

I found it to be so easy just because my house had everything. I stay in an eurasian house, rempah and haybee is a regular frozen item in the fridge. If not the market sells chilli paste now right?.

I added luncheon but my girlfriend used prawns. Do whatever u like! But I must say this dish is da bomb!!

Im Back!

1st of all.. I'm sorry for the lack of posts.

I was giving myself a break.. break from everything in August. Many times I think I'm more right minded then left coz I must get inspired when I work. By working it means in all aspect including parenting.

So what did I do in August? I finished up what was needed in my career and put it on a stand still, I packed up my bags and left my children for 9 days, I didn't work for the whole of August and of course  I didn't blog. Wa right? I was just waiting for August to be over and waited for September! Man I am so excited for the next 12 months!! Enthusiasm hit the roof this morning when I was on my way to Jones the Grocer to blog. I decided this morning that I would blog this week and just go on till the I have nothing to write. (besides the fact I have backlog of posts to deliver *opps)

Today I saw this, I was like omfg... I never saw it up close and personal.. they were right infront of MY car. I wonder what does ducks signify? I google and found this! http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_does_it_mean_when_you_see_different_birds_.._or_are_there_any_meanings

Duck - Luck in speculation, money coming, plenty, success, wealth.

Okie I know I'm lame... gua gua gua. But maybe God has a message for me? I know he has you know why? I keep thinking of this speaker Nick Vujicic, it keeps popping up. Man, I need to go for his event but the tickets are just like SOLD out. Crap... I wonder who has spare and are willing to sell me. Well, if it happens. if not I will go to the next one then.  Okie, maybe u are thinking why I know its a message.

I stumbled on Sistic website when it just open sales and that was in July. I thought and was not sure if I was flying and disregarded it. Saw it around my FB feeds and just once again .. left it alone. One fine day, V came to me " Mummy, u know the man with no arms no legs? " I was like ermm.. ya, pretty much stuck coz I have no idea how to approach such a topic with my child for it will involve human creation, X&Y chromosomes, deformation of the human body, why God chose to make him this way and loads more of thoughts were running through my mind.  But what surprised me was ...

V: "Mummy, you know he is a special person. He is special because he chose to do Jesus's work. He was chosen and although he looks different. He is blessed. "

WALAU, I is choked ... my 4 years old telling me something so in depth. As usual, I did my wow stare with my small eyes at her big doe eyes. Amazed by the fact that she sees it so differently and have thoughts this simple. That my child is sharing me about God's work when we as parents were the ones who promised in our marriage vows to bring and guide our children according to the law of christ.

Catholic wedding vows are usually preceded by three questions from the priest:
"(Name) and (name), have you come here freely and without reservation to give yourselves to each other in marriage?"
"Will you honor each other as man and wife for the rest of your lives?"
"Will you accept children lovingly from God, and bring them up according to the law of Christ and his Church?"
The bride and groom respond "I will" or "yes" (Rite of Marriage #34).

I later found out that she got to know about Nick in school and they had a session of watching him on her teacher's laptop. You see, teachers play an important part in the children's education and well being!! I thank God she has a group that are so devoted in helping us fill that void for talking about God. Last night, I thought of this event AGAIN!

Okie now.... Anyone has anybody who cannot make it for this event and can sell me this ticket PLEASE????
