Email

i got fans of this blog u know... keke

1 mummy just gave birth and dropped me a email asking for advise on breastfeeding... thought I will share with all

breastfeeding: i have 2 tots about it...

latch n latch n latch n latch... cant sleep much though coz the bb will be crying for milk very often n if u have family members that are not pro bf, they will frown on it... but this is the best way!

i started doing this after confinement coz there wasn't anyone but me, nobody to give me negativity nags...

me; i resisted the idea of FM initially but gave in after ALL the nagging from the 2 mothers... so i succumbed to it... kinda regret it as it took a long time for me to build up my supply.

so i will suggest this

1) start pumping every 3 hours, its DAMN tough but its to build up the supply, it includes night too... :( (note:count 3 hours from the time u STOP)

2) i feel that newborns are really very bad suckers, so some how i dun feel like they are drinking much, as i had to latch my bb every 1 hr..zzzz .. so u just latch ur bb for snack, just to train bb to latch n suckle (strengthen their jaws n latch).. do this when u r free in the day with nobody bothering you... take it as bonding..:)

3) can pump 15-20 mins initially... as ur boobs get used to the pumping, increase to 20-30 mins so as to tell ur body that bb needs more milk. yes it will bleed at some point so decrease suction.. but its the most effective when its at maximum strength...

4) if ur milk supply cant meet babies' demand, noting the growth spurt at 6 weeks, 9 weeks, 12 weeks, u can supplement with FM

5) but if u cannot make it, screw total breastfeeding, its better little than never

this are my experience so i hope this helps... i had my lactation consultant guiding me every few days as i needed positivity.. she was great!

hows the wound? hurting u? if so dont do the massage, postpone it... my thread mummies were sharing that we kinda realized that if u start massage too early the wound swells coz the binding is too tight..

Good tips you have there. Just would like to share what i did with my baby. Because latching on was difficult, we bought a nipple protector from mothercare. It makes it easier for the baby to latch on cos of the big plastic nipple. It took him a week before he could latch on without the nipple protector. It can be messy when the milk spills. But once your baby knows how to latch on, you dont need to use the nipple protector anymore.

hey flo, i really take my hats off you lah. i think all full-time mothers can totally relate to your stories. My baby is also like yours. Got very comfortable bed, but must still sleep in my arms. I cant even go for a shower man! Must wait for daddy to return from work sometimes. He is 3 months now and is constantly craving for attenntion. Sleeps very little now, takes very shot nap. If i'm lucky, he sleeps 30 minutes to 1 hour. How to do housework like that? And my blog is getting dusty. No time to update!
