Victoria Talks series

{Victoria talks series}

We have been dealing with Victoria inquisitive minds and questions. Many a time I want to write about it but don't really know how to start off. So today I decided to label these convos under Victoria Talks, at least we can look back on how cute she was.

Today on our way to school. In the middle of our convo

Mummy, why the lights not on? *points to the expressway lamps

Coz its now day not night and the lamps will be turned on only at night. The moon doesn’t shines as bright a the sun.

What about stars mummy, they shine too

Yes they do, but the sun is brighter, when sun shines, it is day. If its moon it’s the night.

Ya, my caterpillar book only has 1 page that is night, then there is that caterpillar that poo the egg out. What’s that mummy?

That’s the egg, the caterpillar lays an egg and after few weeks a baby caterpillar is born.

Why egg mummy?

Just like how mummy has a baby, the caterpillar has a baby. Just that caterpillar is an insect and that’s why is an egg

Where does caterpillar sleeps?

Amongst the plants. (points to the plants)

Amongst?

Between the leaves

Between??

Yes insects live around plants and trees.

But that day mummy, I saw a cockroach walking around in the playground. Cockroach is insect? Sleep in between leaves?

Cockroach, sort of

Mummy what u mean by sort of?

Yes… *II (really no mood for explanation, coz I may just slip out that cockroaches don’t die and they have live like forever!!)

Talking to herself… caterpillar, plants, egg, moon, stars, butterflies, sleeping

U know mummy, I know that the flag has moon and stars. Singapore flag is red  and white… but how does a a Malaysian flag looks like? I dun know mummy, I want to know… I feel sad I dun know, I really what to know. Like I know singapore flags have a crescent and stars, its red and white. What about Malaysia?

I will show it to u, u have book of flags.  Lets go home and see.

You know mummy, dogs have eggs? Do they also like caterpillar poo out of the egg?

Eh.. dogs different, we carry the baby. Its like baby kate and puppies.

But mummy caterpillar then butterfly right?

Yes baby..

Then mummy… why caterpillar has eggs and dogs don’t?

Baby.. we will go home and watch youtube on

1. Caterpillar - life cycle
2. Dogs- - life cycle
3. Natural habitat
4. Flags
5. Solar system on why there is day and night

Okie? Dun think so much

GUA GUA GUA

Mummy, you know that day Aunty May say to look at how u and daddy talk, you each have something in the throat that moves up and down.

I just kept quiet before she goes on and on..

My brain cells just got burn at the rate she just goes on and on. I wonder what is the best way to feed her curiosity and how to answer intelligently. That day we were on the road and saw an ambulance, and the "hop on and off bus" , OMG the questions... n I think I am the one that stirs such questions because of the way I explain u know! But thank god for You Tube man. I had to show her the insides of the ambulance and double decker!!! coz she was asking how to go up to the top and how can they fit the staircase inside of the bus!

Oh something to share, V & K has this thing for watching doctors bursting CYST- monster and sick ones. She laughs at how the gloob gets pushed out... its absolutely DISGUSTING!!! she laughs at it and calls these video - Funny video . *omg

Want to share with me what does your kiddo asks? I think it will be great fun to read them!!

Just one of those weeks that is crazily busy. My brain has  been on full speed last 4 nights and sleep was a privilege. You know how you wake up every 30 mins looking at the clock? yeah those where the last few nights and I think tonight is going to be the same.  I slept till 1pm today on sunday coz the hb was free to look after them in the morning and I just crashed to rest the brain.

I have projects that needs to be completed and was too lazy to do it during the CNY week when I was so darn free. The husband has 2 weeks reservist starting tomorrow and is in his zone out mood. I wonder if most husbands who had to go NS have the same problem as mine. Was blog hopping this Blogging Personality Quiz came up and I got Unique and Avant Garde. Smart Kids Asia 2013

yeah we are back with this month's give-away

SmartKids Asia is back on 15-17 March 2013!!

Those who have been reading my blog will know that V and I went for last year's event and enjoyed ourselves so much! It is to me very different from the baby fair, motherhood fairs where we go and grab children's stuffs at a good deal, diapers on offer or to be hoarded by companies selling insurance, cordblood or post natal massage sales to remind us of how fat we still are after birth *rolls eyes

This event is really great for those whose children have past the stage of babies and toddlers stage. Like how V is ...  Ideal for mummies like me with a child and a infant who is searching for information of new companies that offer trials for the children to try out.

SmartKids Asia has  segmented their event in 3 parts Smart health, Smart Edu and Smart Family.

Smart Health:

At SmartHealth (Health), we portray a healthy nation of services and products under one roof and provide health knowledge to educate and spread health awareness to families. We believe a healthy childhood leads to a strong and happy adult life.

  • Family Health Services such as Chiropractic, Physiotherapy and Psychiatrist services
  • Kids Physical Development Products & Clubs such as Sports Clubs, Kids Gymnasiums, Sports Equipment, Gymnastics, Karate, Dance & more

We went for a FREE eye check up last year and V's eyes are not exactly 6/6 due to TV and Ipad etc.*reality check This year we will be going for a review to see how it had progress or digress. There is also a chiropractor that wanted us to try out last year but we resisted. But this year, I would like to pay the booth a visit. I mean at the end if you sign up with them is still your choice. I want V to get a check, or rather the husband coz he keeps having stiff neck and this is a good excuse to get it checked!

Smart Edu:

At SmartEdu (Education), we portray purveyors of innovative, enriching education systems & resources to help shape the development of children who will later on become successful persons in life.
  • Academic Development such as Chinese Language, English Language, Mathematics, Science and more

  • Enrichment Programs such as Abacus, Art & Craft, Dance, Guitar, IT, Music, Piano, Singing, Speech & Drama, Violin & more
  • Educational Resources such as Libraries, Books, e-Learning, Videos, Software, Educational Toys/Games and more
Last year, I dropped V off at Kids gallery for her art work for $10. It was awesome and if they are there this year, I may do the same. In fact I may just drop her off at all the available drop off corners so that I can enjoy the fair better. I am in search for new places for Baby Kate to go to, just to see if there are any new trials we can enjoy together since she still getting more aware. I paid for a CHICC profiling last year which I think is pretty interesting, so want to do for K too! keke

Smart Family:

At SmartFamily (Family Relationship), we portray family services, products, venues, & clubs under one roof to help families foster strong family ties and bonds, as well as assist in shaping the personality of children to always be happy.
  • Family Relationship Services such as Family Service Centres, Family & Marriage Counselling Centres, Child Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Disability Services & more

HOW I became a SAHM

On a blog train (u can click on the logo to read post of other stay at home mummies)

Readers of this blog will know I used to be flying with Singapore Airlines and left as a Leading Stewardess, Yea the one in green uniform (aka as Ninja turtles), u can see how HOT I used to look!!!
I look silly with The ST right ?
actually it was my 2nd last flt and it states 120708!!

You see not all mummies decides that being jobless was the way to go, for my case in my previous company -
I was just forced to be jobless.

Yes, basically no choice but to leave without a job, no option of being grounded because my previous company do not think its feasible to keep staff that are pregnant. Odd? But it is a living fact! still is.... sadly.

The next 1 year was a disaster, mainly because for a person who started flying at 18 years young, Singapore seems aloof. The streets of London, New York, Sydney were more home then HOME here. It was then at 30 years young, SAHM based in Singapore, I finally started to see policies made in Singapore to be not family oriented. Being exposed to what was out there for the last 11 years, family policies pale in comparison here. I remembered vividly that one fine day, I actually keyed in my computer "Companies that are allow women to work from home" "companies that are pro-children" and many more. Ermmm of course in Singapore, you cannot find any.

It was pretty frustrating that an able person at her prime cannot find anything to do except to be a pregnant mother. That is how the blog came about too, since I could not find any job to do but have a lot of things to say or tell.  I remember how the mummies in the forum who was ask to leave because of their pregnancy. You see, in retrospect being pregnant is not a liability.   We are all as smart as we can be, darn capable I may say.

So, society made me a SAHM...

When the baby was born, it was a real fun... except as SAHM we do not get any 'ME' time, financial means, help. The housework has naturally bestowed upon us- coz we don't work! Odd, sadly true yet again.  I needed to breath and options of getting a help seem not the right option. I mean, yes I need time out but I don't need to mother another person in my life and costings was way too high. It was at this point, I grieve for motherhood here in Singapore. I read alot and skimmed through many forums, and it seems that the government has no regard to people who chose not to work. ermm...

I have few options it seems.

1. Not work
2. Work part time but who takes care of the baby? there was no option of childcare benefits for part time work. Like isnt part time work, work still?
3. Go back into the workforce - 11 years experienced with a degree

I had to work my way out of the Singapore System. The system that thinks working 9-5pm must be the way to go to be successful. But then again what is success in Singapore?

My definition of success is that the person is very well balance in her life. I strive to find that something that allows me to see my children daily, have personal time with my husband and yet have finanicial independence.

NOW? I run my own business - Enriching Women's Lives... amazing isn't it? I became a Flexi SAHM.

Kidzania

We were away last weekend for a road trip to Kuala Lumpur.

This trip was with V's friends and we drove into Malaysia. Met up at 9am in Jurong- we were late as Trev was trying out a new app and the app funnily likes to bring us into small roads --- pretty irritating. I mean I would just drive ECP, AYE... but he went CTE, PIE, clementi, bouna vista, jurong etc.. got me all rolled eyes and all. I mean why can he check the app the day before the actual day right?

Anyway, this was baby Kate's 1st trip out. It was really exciting for us as a family.

We arrived in at the hotel at about 3-4pm (we got lost) and did a nice swim in the pool.  Cold I say... must be the rain..  stayed over at One World Hotel PJ. eh nice wor the hotel... I'm pretty impressed by the location and  its connection to the mega mall- One Utama. I mean you know us and malls right? It was really easy to get stocks for the trip, although we hardly had time to walk around. I mean the mall was massive! We placed V in a trolley cox she was grumbling that she was tired. Shopping was pretty much same oh same oh but they do of course have different brands. I did however realised that most malaysians don't shop as there was not much people with shopping bags. We did have dinner with my girlfriend (also my business associate) at this peranakan restaurant that was yummers!!

On saturday, we had the hotel breakfast and man! like what ern's daddy said. "It has got horizon" ... the  spread was like it was dinner buffet, every station was open! Besides the usual egg station, there was fresh juice, pateries, cereals, cold cuts , salad, japanese, prata, dimsum, thosai... I even had gourmet cheese platter for my breakfast. Awesome or wat!

After that we had BKT lunch in i dunno where, Ryan's parents who are locals brought us there. Nice to have local foods although it was too warm for baby kate. We made a trip to Kidzania for the 2nd session. On weekends their sessions are 10-3pm, 4-9pm. It was crazy fun for the parents and the children. I must say its a great set up...

The children gets 50 K cheque and was asked to go to the bank to exchange for dollars. This is to educate the child about "pay money and earn money." V obviously could not understand it at all, guess it takes a few more trips. The whole place was made up of different companies.. I was amazed by the layout of the place and most of all the CONCEPT of it all! You can look at the countries where KIDZANIA is and going to open in the next 2 years. I seriously think children nowadays are so darn lucky!!!!

But I do think the reason why we enjoyed this so much was that V had her besties with her. 4 friends at 4 yo and learning things together. Why not? They were full of giggles and laughter the whole time. We even got a photo of them gossiping...

cuteness right?

We were there till 8-ish and the parents were famished! The children had a session at Ayam cooking school and had a tuna sandwich. The photos and videos are in Trev's hp and I will have to retrieve it. But for now these are the photo Kidzania took and we bought.

Dr Sears Vs Gina Ford (sleeping)

I finally am qualified to write this post, mainly because I have 2 child of different ends of the spectrum!!!

Victoria was a High need baby, something I found out after much sweat, frustrations and tears, It was a tough road since my book I had prepared was TCB by Gina Ford. So can u imagine?? Yes it was argghhh.... So today I will write my experience.

Sleep (co-sleep):

Victoria- The day we brought her back home, it was the start of THE sleepiness nights. My mum came over to help us in the day and in the end she stayed for the night. The 3 of us walked V the whole night- each taking turns. I googled and it quickly became that its a new environment and baby is unsure etc etc.  She was swaddled, low light, had music/white noise.... it was not magic but it helped a little. The last I recalled that night when I walked her, there was sight of dawn before I collapse from fatigue. We started from 7 pm the last night.

The next few days seemed better, she slept in her cot at night and in the playpen of the hall. All seemed great. Till 1.5 week later, the fussiness started and its also mayhem - starts from 5pm-9pm. I googled, it was shared that BB is fussy always at the time the pregnant mummy moved the most whilst being pregnant- to most it will have to be dinner time.

We managed to accept the fact that it happens and sort of "lived" by it. I get loads of comments it was the lack of milk *rolls eyes...

Then it came the flipping, teething... also know as The Wonder Weeks which they claim that the 5, 8, 12, 19, 28, 37,6, 55, 64 and 75 weeks, there will be an increase of Crankiness, Clingliness, Crying. Of course, you get the Growth Spurts at 3, 5, 9 12, 15, 18 etc weeks. Which means if you look at it all, parents (US) don't sleep :D

I gave up on the cot !! Every time I put her down, she wakes up and our 1 hour of patting and walking was in vain. So we ended up co-sleeping. V was latching onto me the whole night. Moving was a privileged that time. By moving, I meant..... turning myself and trying to get myself in a nice position to sleep. If I happen to wake her up, its a long 1 hour before she falls back asleep. Self soothing was a no no for V. Pacifier didn't work!!!!You can read it here Fussy babies and sleeping habits

I eventually succumbed to baby wearing which rocked the house!!! She sleeps in it.... Amen

I had to adopt Dr Sears method for Attachment parenting because it flopped miserably with Gina ford's routine ways. I tried to fix a time for her to sleep but we ended up fighting and it gets exhausting. Clocks didn't exist in those days.

Kate: The 1st night was pretty much about adjusting since we have Victoria around. Trev had a tough 1st night adjusting, but he soon realise that as long u put milk to her mouth, she gets appeased. It was 150ml in 2 hours for a 3 day old baby. WE knew immediately this was a milk monster. This time round, we were "smarter" and got ourselves a live-in nanny for the month who came 2 days later. She sleeps, sleeps, sleeps. Most of them time I look at her and wonder if she is alive. Me and Trev was amazed and thought that the nanny has some supernatural powers!!!

K was such a easy baby, I latch her, she falls asleep at the boob and never wakes up till like 3 hours. (then I had bf issues - will explain later) You can move her and she still sleeps. As she grows older, sleeping does need a little coaxing. But the night is relatively easy, she sleeps straight 12 hours since 2 months old- means she doesn't wake up to play like how V used to.  The 1st month she was doing her dump at 4 am ....  but eventually stopped.

For K, as long u latch her a little, it goes another few hours. I think for now its 10pm, 6 am for milk. We sort of believe that she maybe a pacifier baby, but decided not even go there. Just have to bear with her fussiness at time. K can be really loud SUDDENLY -since she is most of the time contented. Main reason for her outburst are always about her gums.

For Kate, I used Gina Ford Routines (some) and it worked pretty well for her. She is like clockwork. We wake up about 9am and roll about for an hour. She showers, sleep and wakes up for milk at 2pm, sleep/or play, drinks at 6pm, sleeps, showers, drinks at 9pm. Timing goes off about 1 hours (+/-) We have to look at the clock to understand what was the cry about. If its not milk time, then we will have to entertain her. I can't say I follow all since I am already a parent that is used to attachment parenting. I just have to tweak slightly to suit our current lifestyle. Oh I DO NOT USE CRY IT OUT method. Just not our styles.

Blogging tips: How to write a perfect About page

I am starting to monetize this blog. Why? Coz as of any business u need some form of advertising and in this mummy world, there are loads. So Instead of writing aimlessly- I will stil have my rants, the purpose of the blog has to clarified. Advertorials, giveaways are excellent ways to pay back the readers and benefit them. To me, everything are getting are really expensive and getting a product to test out or to give to the readers deem the right way to go. We as mummies have this innate ability to try to save, I mean I started out the tickets giveaways, IT costs a parent $70 to bring a child, so its a good deal to just leave a comment right?
I have in the pipeline Bio oil, Avent, Smartasia Kids for this month. Not too bad right? It is mind blogging to find a theme for this blog. But I am pretty much nearing the purpose of this blog... just need to digest on it. Its odd to say that I finally found that Blogging is my passion, whilst others play/listen music, my husband is a gamer, some bakes.  Writing has become my outlet of relaxation.. never knew I have it in me.
I have done some research for those who are keen on starting a blog. For me, I am learning it too. So in this few months, there will be slight changes here and there. Eventually when the right name comes along (something that can simple means me and my blog,  I will change it all into a proper website. For now Im happy to use this blog name.

When you start blogging, the first page you should think about adding to your site is the about page. Although it is one of the most important pages on your site (along with the contact page), it is often considered the most challenging when it comes to writing.
About pages are essential for your readers as they allow them to get a better insight into your blog’s mission, your personal style and history. It is a great way to allow your followers to get a better understanding of the person behind your blog, and is an opportunity to answer any questions your readers may have.
The about page is a tricky one to get right – it can feel awkward talking about yourself and often the words don’t come easily. Many bloggers confess to a friend writing their about page for them, but due to the personal nature of an about page, it’s important to give it a go yourself. After all, nobody knows you and your blog better than you.

Research.

Start off with researching what you have already written about your blog elsewhere. Review your Twitter and Pinterest profiles and your Facebook page description. Chances are, you have already written about yourself and your blog on them. Use these for a starting point to help frame your about page’s content.
Try to understand what questions your audience may want answered. If you use social media platforms such as Formspring, have a scroll through past questions you’ve answered. Look for questions asked in past emails, blog comments and on Twitter from your readers. Since your readers are already asking these questions, it would be appropriate to answer them on your about page.
Don’t be afraid to be inspired by your favourite blogger’s content. Research a range of other about pages, even ones from brands and companies you follow. How have they written theirs? What do you like about their page? What don’t you like? Jot these points down in a notepad to help inspire you to create your very own, personal about page.

What should you write about?

Make it shine full of personality, add interesting and quirky facts that make you “you”. Talk about your most proud moments, add any experiences you are proud of and stay upbeat. Below is a list of points you might want to start with.
Suggested points:
  • Your name and location.
  • When you started your blog.
  • What encouraged you to first start blogging?
  • What inspires you.
  • Your personal style.
  • What you blog about.
Open up a word document to draft your content for the about page. Paste in your summaries from your social networking profiles along with the notes you’ve taken from your research.
Start off with introducing yourself with your name and location. Write down some words to describe your personality. If you want to share your qualifications within the fashion industry, you could write about your education, career and experiences. Write down in bullet points all the facts you want to get across to your readers and then start to slowly build these into sentences.

Final Touches.

Now you have worked out the meat of your about page, it is time to add to the appearance. Add a nice, clear image of yourself at the top of the page. Pick a photo that shows off your personal style, your personality and reflects you well. This is the image your readers will connect your writing and blog’s voice to. You could highlight interesting points and quotes to make it more visually exciting. If you have any, try to add a couple of quotes from influential publications in which you’ve been mentioned.
Add your contact information at the end of your about page. Adding an email address will encourage your readers to email you if they have any further questions you haven’t answered about yourself or your blog. You could even add a link to your twitter profile as well for those who prefer a quicker response.
When you think you are finished with your page, get a friend or family member to proof-read it for you before you take it live. This is just to ensure you have spelled everything correctly and that the phrasing will make sense to your readers.

A few more basic tips:

  • Make sure it is positive, engaging content which isn’t too long. Blog readers tend to have short attention spans and prefer to read small bulks of text at a time. Try breaking the content up with visuals such as images and bullet points.
  • Never disclose personal details like your address or phone number for your own personal safety.
  • Read it over and over again before posting to make sure what you are disclosing in your about page is information you are comfortable sharing with your readers.

4 months old (KL)

Most day I wonder where her newborn days went... if I had Kate as my 1st born, I may seriously have 4 children by now. I mean I read that all babies are different but hell ya we have 2 girls of the ends of different spectrum!

A simple task like drinking milk, its a daily chore but for V it was war. I still remember so clearly that we went through 6 different bottles and I even got Tollyjoy (old skool brand!) For K, it really doesn't matter what brand, what teats, she just takes it. She swaps between a boob and a teat like a professional.

Sleeping takes a little bit of pattern like bouncing and we recently realised she loves loud music when we are to put her for naps. So my helper plays her music from the hp LOUD and she snoozes. Odd right? but whatever that works la!!!!! For V ... like what my mum says, putting V to sleep was like walking to Penang and back, and yet it doesn't always work. V hates to sleep. *period

Its usually pretty crazy a night. but we try to be all up by 830, latest 9pm. We as a family will roll and play about. Then its off to sleep. K sleeps from usually 9pm to the next day. Yes she gets her buffet at that time but currently is 1am and 6 am. Most time she skips the 1am now, but its crazy 6,7,8 am. Whatever makes her happy, as long I get to sleep. Last night, all 4 of us slept at 10 pm .. ya omg miracle!!!  I was fighting my virus, refuse to succumb to antibiotics for my tonsillitis.

She is showing signs of teething and that Lunar 4 th mth thingy that I did. Didn't quite help with the drooling, she still plays with puddles of them.

my morning smile
doesn't look like a 4 mth-er right?
yes ur eyes are not kidding u... she is in a high chair. wobbles still
my angels daily
