http://sg.theasianparent.com/raising-well-behaved-kids/

Many people think that parents who have well-behaved kids are very lucky. But having kids who behave really well doesn’t have anything to do with luck.
12159547 s 10 tips to raise well behaved kidsWhat exactly does it take, you may wonder? It takes a lot of patience, hard work and determination to raise kids who are able to practice good behaviour. Here are ten tips that can help you raise well-behaved kids:
1. Model good behaviour. The best way to teach kids how to behave well is by showing them how to do it. Actions are more powerful than words. If they see you practice good behaviour yourself, then they are most likely to follow your example.
2. Communicate rules and expectations clearly. Kids do not know right from wrong. They need to be taught which actions are acceptable and which are not. Use words that they will understand and make sure that you are very specific. It is the responsibility of parents to help their children have a sense of with-it-ness by constantly giving them reminders so inappropriate behaviour can be prevented.
3. Reward good behaviour immediately. The best way to help children to behave well is to give them rewards whenever they do something good which can be in the form of words, gestures and gifts. Right timing is essential as children should be able to associate rewards with good behaviour. If you give the reward too late, they may not understand what it is for.
A simple pat in the back or “well done” is usually enough to tell children that they have done the right thing. It is fine to occasionally give them gifts. However, you have to constantly check their motivation for behaving well. Make sure that it is not just because of the gifts.
4. Encourage them often. Children are inspired to practice good behaviour if they know that you believe in them. Constantly rooting for your children will help them to make better choices.
5. Train them early. Your kids are never too young to make good behavioural choices. Experts say that a child’s foundations for character are established before the age of five. So it important that you do all you can when they are still in preschool to prepare them for the real world.
6. Be firm and consistent. Your children are smarter than you think they are. When you give in to what they want once, they will expect you to give in to them all the time. They are most likely to test your resolve when you are in a gathering. Do not waver just because there are many people around, stick to the rules. If they persist and throw a tantrum, deal with them privately.
7. Give them room to grow. Allow your children to make their own decisions as it is not healthy for you to always shadow them.  Let them make mistakes sometimes so they will learn to be more responsible for their actions.
8. Do not deal with your children when you are angry. It is unwise to correct them when emotions are running high as you might just say or do things that you will regret later. Allow yourself to cool off before you talk to them.
9. Provide a healthy and positive environment at home. Allow your children to grow according to their unique personalities and characteristics. Never compare them to other children as this can only cause them to experience undue pressure and stress. Not to mention that it can cause them to have low self-esteem.
10. Love them unconditionally. Correct your children when they are wrong but love them regardless of how they behave. They have to understand that your love for them does not depend on their actions or performance.

Away

As I'm alone in the room with the whole bed to myself, it got me thinking.... Whenever trev flies off for business, it takes alot from me as I will double up my parent load. It becomes a natural instinct to ensure that she doesn't feel lonely. I don't book appointments and try to be at home most of them time. But this round it's interesting as I have noticed that my parents in
law have up their game too! They make plans to bring her out, getting people (their siblings) to our place to keep her busy, basically helping me lighten my load. Even Nita makes an effort to bring her to the supermart daily and playground. I am really thankful for the support I get. Even my mum is asking for V the whole day this week... :)

I'm alone in this bed because I have a daughter that got hooked to sleeping with the grands. Note the super king sized bed where she gets to roll around. She insisted that all paintings to be taken down (coz they had pictures of balinese ladies) hahaha. Anyway she enjoys her time with them, chats and tells stories every-time. Even the grandfather will go to bed early just to put her to sleep whenever she wants to sleep with them. Trev n I gets our bed to ourselves and trust me when we have the bed to ourselves, it's pillows and bolster every corner! So that we can flip and flip when we sleep!!

I'm truly blessed to get all these help, although it can be boring when I'm alone. But after so long it's really great to have breaks like this, to truly rest. Oh did I mention I sleep to 10-11am everyday that is of I have no appointments hehe. Its well deserved rest after so long :)

free....

I'm actually sitting infront on my lappie doing stuffs....

Been really lazy and rather browse on my ipad really. But yesterday I wrote my to-do lists and a good half of it must be done on a table on a computer. So bopians.... blogging by the way is NOT on the list. So you can be sure I haven't really got anything from the list done YET.  *damns

have so so so much to do... you see its alot coz I haven't got to doing it yet. why why must I be such a procrastinator ... *damns again

Anyway some updates.. V has since recovered, you know coz she is screaming, pulling the dog's fur, playing with her toys and going on a movie marathon - everyday. We are not ready to put her back to playgroup as the HFMD as risen to 4, so its holiday for her still. But she is still coughing bits so lets not get the rest sick. She is way off better just at home and going to the playground in the evening. I won't be bringing her out to play gyms , fearing another round.  Sometimes I see children out in the "wild" coughing or have snot dripping down. Like why? I understand there is a need to have air but but but... they are virus carriers. :(

Anyway I may just drop her at my mum's to give everyone at home some break,  Daddy is away in Germany and so there needs some balance. My mum may help me fatten her up a little coz everyone here is exasperated by her terrible appetite. She is all bones and skin,  but actually I think she got prettier... maybe its the amount of time she spends sleeping. Glowing skin? or could be that she slimmed down and the jawline became sharper? Her eyes is alot bigger but do eyes grow? *scratches head

So after blogging and reading many blogs in between ... (just got invited and joined a new community- I have topic for my next post.... some thing along like things I cant stand to read in a blog hahahha ) I'm sleepy and it time for siesta snooze. Before you think I was sleeping just now wrong, I ran out for lunch meeting and now its time to digest the food. Yawns...  shit nothing got done yet *F

2nd visit

Her fever didn't go down but shoots to 39.6 at night. We have been spending sleepless nights sponging her yawns... So it was off to the PD again. Daddy took off while I slept, slept and slept. Why? Coz when she is not well, I'm her tree that she sticks herself to, sleeps in my space n takes my pillow ;(
PD gave her another cocktail like omg.. As if the previous ones wasn't enough... But this round is due to her cough, the phelgm are too thick for her to cough out and so 5 different meds just to loosen it, ensuring she can breathe. It was after this illness that I realised y children are hooked to sweets n ice cream etc. We were given this awesome antibiotics but it was the mother of all f****** taste. The drama we had to go through just to get it down. We were encourage to give her a sweet/chocolate after that, 1st sign of what sort of reinforcement? Postive or negative? I train my child to not indulge in such treats and just because she has a viral fever n I have to buy her pink sweets. Oh well.....
She hasn't been eating for 2-3 days which is crap coz her throat was inflamed and I bought mini cornetto that she takes 2 bites from and that was it :( ... She out from school until she puts on the weight that she has lost. For I was told there are 2 cases of hfmd today. No way is she is gng to fall sick again

Tonsillitis

It's back ... The ailment is back to haunt me :(

Okie not me, but the princess has it. Woke up slightly warm but it was off to school and since it was 37 ish, daddy thinks it was okie. She came back had a nap and voila it came. 38.4.... Complain about pain in her mouth... Faint :( she felt sad for herself and cried. I knew that she was really not well, for it was self pity...

We cannot afford to fall sick as trev is flying off on a biz trip, I'm booked full in March..... and hfmd is on a high. Worse right? Off we went to the doctor and walau germicide !!! So many sick children, I felt sick just registering myself !!! After about 1 hour of wait.. At this new PD at 828 tampines, eh 18 years being there!! We saw some recognition on the wall.. Dr Loke was really really nice.... V likes her, mainly because she called her princess!

After checks, nothing alarming and it's was my old friend Mr Tonsillitis... He came for a visit. :(

U see I grew up with this friend, my whole life. I hate him, I can't eat fried, heaty stuffs my whole life coz it's a torture with him hovering around. V came home feeling really sad for herself, cries again. Oh well.

Yday I was busy at work but took time out today to stay with her. Aiyo the tears were just rolling, can't eat lunch, during meds, even milk... Reminds me so much when I was young. I remember I really pitied myself whenever I had it, coz the whole body aches, throat flares... In the midst of her crying I offered her to bring her to a ice cream palour and she rejected me! Okie this is serious ... Coz I hv a child who doesn't demand for treats but appreciate when we offer -hardly esp from me, and she rejected me! Okie today must be peak.

It's pitiful to see her struggle through her sleep, but many times I remind myself .. It's better the tonsils then the father's children asthma. The doctor always told me when I was young that it's a better ailment to have as it prevents the viruses from going into the chest or body. The body is smart to use it's tonsils to block it ... So yes I'm thankful for this terrible ailment.

Friday night

I'm actually amazed that I'm home.. EARLY! Well, friday is usually my non working day-sometimes, I would meet friends and have drinks/dinner etc. I did all that actually but in the afternoon, so came home to have dinner... Then I realised I had nothing to do :S hell I had work and research for a project but it's Friday and do I really wanna do it? So we came up to the room after dinner, showered and all... Then Trev had his xbox on, V wanted to watch her princess shows on the iPad and I had nothing to do :(

It sux sometimes that you are in the same room and have no tv to watch. But it's Friday and it's game night. So the wife have no say.... The thing about staying in not your own house is that you don't have spare tv or space to go to. It actually forces us to be stuck together. It's actually great family bonding.....

I got bored and made V do "button-ing" practice hahaha.

Have I mention that she showers herself, brushes her teeth and dresses herself already :) with supervision of course. Can't imagine her in the shower alone .. She will soap up the whole place hahahaha. She is off her diapers in school since 1st day of Jan, wears them only to sleep. She is 3 years old and really is into her 1st step to independence.

Glamour Kiddies

We were in Liang Court and I stumbled onto this shop. Its just on the same floor as Royce Gym, I was very attracted by the deco and the all princess theme. Since V was in this stage, we made a visit to the stop and discovered that they had some children catwalk on. Hahahah so we thought, okie why not... just for the fun of it. I mean thats why we have a girl right? its for us to play pretty with....

Its a package of 4 lessons and it costs $20 each time. Which was not a hefty amount and the session includes hair styling, makeup, many changes of outfit (handmade), tea break hahhahah. sounds too fun to reject it.. seriously!

So we had V all dolled up, here is her with some Vroom hairdo.

They had some makeup - Organic and children safe makeup.

Gorgeous ya???
Then they got behind the curtains and had their outfits changed. Here is her peeking behind the curtains while we patiently waited for her :)
Her 1st groovy outfit
they went for a change and returned with a princess gown hahhaha
Serious posing... new bff for the day.
Outfit 3..
Outfit 4: upset coz of the colour, so she skipped one walk and got herself another change
Outfit 5: something blue for a sunday best
After about 2 hours, styling, changing, walking and all... the children has a nice tea break with melamine champagne flutes, awesome looking furniture... all fit for a princess. What is good is that its not a modelling agency but some place a child can just play doll up . She enjoyed it so much!! She is looking forward to more sessions, what's best is that you need not commit to weekly fun as you can opt to come when you are free, just have to inform the boss :)

Ukulele lessons

Since she is still too young to learn piano, the grandfather decided to take his ukelele and practice, hoping to entice V with learning the instrument. So the last few days, the house has been filled with music from the instrument. V is definitely keen on learning music from that toy like instrument although she keeps standing in front of the grandfather wondering why that toy can make such wonderful sounds. Just a little few more sessions and I'm sure she will be ready to pick up the ukulele to play a few notes.

Sleeping ... Not with me

Daddy made her watch some dog show and made her cry.... U know that Japanese one and the owner dies and the dog stood guard blah blah blah...

Ya it made her cry and she went to look for her grandma downstairs. I came back about 10pm, after getting daddy his supper and didnt see her. Daddy went to check and she decided to sleep with the grands coz the movie made her so upset.

Now I'm in bed (while the husband has fallen asleep!) without my daughter, we thought she wouldnt want to sleep with the grands (tried a few times) and I hear the arming of the alarm which means all is asleep. Except me of course...

My 1st night on my bed without my princess, looks like she is all grown up. I long for a night like this but it's funny... I cannot sleep :(

At 3

We went to the PD finally.... If not for the nasty rash (fungal) we may not seriously move our butt to go there. As usually we are your classic patients u do not wish to have. We took 40 mins in the clinic and was given the dagger eyes when we came out!!!!

The last visit was when she was I guess 15 -18 mths. Cannot remb , ya this long ago. Dr Tan was real pleased to see her and was like "I remb this one, had to see a specialist or something" hahaha. I updated her on her breath holding fits which stopped coz we give it to her most of the time. But did tell her, V missed the tantrum sprees that her friends are going through. She actually skipped this stage, coz 1. We give in 2. We reason 3. We home bound. Hahaha actually we plan our day according to her moods. If she wakes up all smiley , it's a packed day. If she is grumpy early, we usually cancel all plans and go home to sleep keke. Coz I have no patience if she doesn't want to eat or listen, I just drive home. Simple actually ... This is y we hardly see a melt down from her.

Princess is 92cm & 12 kg, still in her 25% percentile. Got her all the vaccines which we like missed totally!! Mmr + chicken pox and DPT... All done without any tears and yet she gave a smile after. Dr & nurse gave her much praises as they expecting some drama. We came home n I announced to everyone about how brave she was! N u can expect all the clapping, hi 5 she had!

I misplaced her health book n CDA card. It's somewhere but don't know where *sigh. I paid $307! damn bloody expensive . More so when I'm paying ! But its all worth when I know I have a healthy child :) best part today was when I was I'm the clinic she shouted " mummy mummy look behind u, there... It's buzzing above your head!" you know when was the last time I heard anyone using the word "BUZZING" ???? It's almost extinct!
