Goodie bag - Playdough

V's school has preference for not gifting sweets/chocloates for their goodie bags. Mainly to avoid allergies in children I believe. So I did a bit of research and decided to make playdough with just 2 ingredients!! I broke the costings for those who are keen. I wanted to buy glass jars at $2 a jar but was advised not to gift glass as most children cannot handle glass well at this young age. So I got those plastic containers that they can reuse after their sensory play.

Makes 18 packets of zipock = 6 containers
  • Cornflour             200 grams $2
  • Hair Conditioner  600 ml $7

I did for 30 students. So my total cost was about less than $3 a child.
  • Container             $2 for 3=$30
  • Colouring             $1.80 x3=$5.40
  • Ziplock                100 pcs=$3
  • Ribbons               10 m $3.50 x3=$10.5
  • Printed cards        30 pieces for $5=$5

2 parts cornstarch to 1 part hair conditioner
Use a mixing bowl, we started with a container and it was too small

Add in colours! for pastel looking ones, 1 drop is sufficient
Get the young one involved!
Don't forget the birthday girl and the husband!
U can do 1 colour or 3!
I got these printed on cards, but I believe paper will do just as great
Ribbons to spruce up any gift.. everytime.

We found making the playdough very therapeutic. Besides that, the whole house smells like hair conditioner and the children get much joy mixing the dough! Definitely "Handmade with Love", I chose to use ziplock as its airtight since playdough dries out very fast! It's more convenient for the children to put it back into the bags after playing, making this gift re-useable. We believe all parents would love to get gifts the children can play with or use. Love this recipe!!

The Cores

There has been uproar of comments of recent happenings, the Caucasian and that little boy- both who were very opinionated. It got me thinking that character is very important isn't it? It wasn't just this, the husband went in for reservist recently and was commenting how the younger boys tend to push their luck a little further, when they know rules are rules. (Example like not wearing their army cap or something)  I was pretty surprised by his statement, was like "You mean you don't do it?" He casually replied, "There are things you can try pushing your luck, but rules of the army, I don't."

I thought hard, I must say he is a very disciplined person in terms of business or personal growth. So why is the army, uniformed group so strict? I believe it really has to do with conforming to rules to make you a better person isn't it? From young, I was a rebel in any ways.. I believe we all felt that we were "rebellious" once, just to what degree. Now as a parent, I find ways to help develop my child and it seems that 3 things are very important to the growth of a child. So lets see what my family's top 3 cores are.

Core 1 - Value System

In my post of "How to find the Right Husband" states that having a faith is important and bringing a child in faith is important. I grew up with faith, going to church and practicing it without knowing much what it is. Of course as I grew up, there were many questions about my faith like everyone and if it's the right one for me? Some parents argue that a religion is not important and that the child can decide to choose what he/she wants when she grows up. Well, it will be too late by then. My founding years of beliefs have grown onto me and I thank my parents for insisting that I go church every week. In every religion, it ONLY teaches you good. The bad comes from opinions.  My main core makes me who I am: Respect, Empathy, Love, Honour, Praise, the readings of Sunday mass is embedded, the songs of praise etched in my mind and I sing songs of praise when I feel down knowing that the problems will go away because I believe. Why deny the child of this? With that, the value system is the core that allows the person never to stray far for he/she knows it is wrong.

Core 2 - Discipline

Many parents send their children to maybe Music, Ballet, Aikido. Of course, we say its because the child loves music, enjoys dancing, self defence etc. But deep down we all know, it just because we want to instill discipline in a child doing something they love. Discipline is inculcated in a positive environment without the child feeling that it being too stifling. That why some parents doesn't see the need to send the child in their early stages of their lives unless their reason is otherwise. Now, why is discipline important? Discipline = Will Power. Now, do you see it as a core? Without the will power, that person loses purpose, loses desire, loses the need to excel.

There are many ways of introducing discipline from other sources besides parenting.
Military disciple = Army, which is why it is "From Boys to Men"right? There are also the Scouts, the Guides and Uniformed groups like the band in school! Beside disciple, the child learns teamwork!
Education discipline = Specialization of subjects, learning and instructions.
School discipline= Set of rules to abide and teachers that control behaviour. I know there is another school of thoughts like home schooling. But the parents will have already done enough homework to segregate parenting discipline/academic/school discipline. But for me? I will seriously get myself confused to go in out of roles so often!

Core 3 - Sportsmanship

This came about recently and I never though of it as important. Many of my friends were bringing their children to rock climbing and I had a convo on if we should do so. I believe that sports are important but didn't know which one helps. One fine day, the husband came to tell me we should do gymnastics. I was like huh, why? He explained that most important thing in sports are the core muscles, once you have educated/strengthen your core muscles... you can do any and everything without breaking that leg, that hand due to clumsiness. True isn't it? That's the reason why some people are just that flexible and have that inner strength? It's because their core muscles are well build! They can just do anything required with their body! I see it so important now that I signed up Yoga, just because it can help my aging body to build core muscles. Well, better late than never, isn't it? I'm sure alot of you will question this core but in my opinion, if I was great in sports I may never go through that rebellion stage in my life because I have competitive sports to burn off that teenage angst . I had a lecturer who shared that the most important aspect she looks for in a school is the school field. She said that every child couldn't be denied of space to run and do sports as it will help them most in their being. I didn't quite understand it then but as I grew older, I finally do.

This is my family's pick of what is important. If you want to know why I chose these 3?

 It's a simple answer:

The Mind (Will Power), the Soul (Faith) the Body (Muscles)

Kate lauren - Her 15 month old

Last 1 week has been crazy with this toddler. She decides that it is OKAY to remove her clothes just before she sleeps. I remember going through this with V b4, but some how with 2 children on the bed.. it takes more from me.

Nightly routine: the girls gets their shower and they lie on the bed to have their bed. Yes, still from bottle, don't judge me about the bottle weaning. V is impossible to wean at soon to be 5yo! She has opinions about her bottle weaning process and we know she is of a character, I just let it be for peace sake.  K will have her milk 1st usually, she eats too much in my opinion but to eat is better than not eating. So no comments. Actually, I hardly write about my #2 born coz she is such an angel and blogging usually jinx it much. But since this topic is jinxed, so lets unjinx it by blogging. Hur hur hur, Bloggers have a odd mindset. Okie, I swear to have her blog posts updated/backdated. I hardly blog now coz my time to blog is usually at night, but now with 2, I just want to roll in bed with them. You get me right?

this was when it FIRST happen. so cute. *WAS
Back to topic.... omg this K is cheeky like all 2nd born I presume? She has that natural knack for getting attention and it makes the sister way jealous. K is just so comical is her ways, she makes us laugh so much with her silliness! So now she is removing her PJ! She decides that it is okie to NOT HAVE clothes in a 20 degrees small room. After 3 mins, she decides that there is that chill... she wants it BACK ON. So the cycles goes on and on and on. Don't let me start with the socks, omg. Left foot then right foot, wear then remove. 2 nights ago, I went through this for 3 freaking hours! The father decided to put them to sleep at 8pm, claims that they are tired * rolls eyes. When I was done with my TV (me time) K woke up and started. The best part is she will innocently tap u at your shoulder until u wake up to remove her clothes or vice versa. I swear it was funny at 1st but when it was 230am, I was zonked and needed the rest.

You see bed time is not so fun. We have to ride this out and I seriously hope its not going to take too long. This was taken last night and after all the dressing and undressing, we gave up and threw her under the sheets, turned off the lights and TV. She fell asleep next to her father while V was next to me (extreme whiny). I woke up to a baby whose head was all drenched coz of the father's body heat and the bed had that pool of wetness from her perspiration. Now, what a great opportunity to catch that cold right?

So Im blogging to unjinx this crazy thing she has and that it will slide and never come back. Till tonight when I battle another round with her. Its my duty coz its thursday and the father goes for his weekly football. Nope, it still goes on despite being on reservist for the last 7 days.

Flolookbook- New Year New makeup looks

Think this year I am going to attempt to blog some looks, I do this everyday anyway, so why don't I just blog it down!!!

So I have been noticing the trend of makeup of the young- er- est lately.  I don'y usually agree on their trends much but this time, I kinda like it a lot. So I attempted the look casually and it turned out pretty cute, don't you think?

STAINED LIPS: I do quite like the stained lips look, although some put too much concealer on the lips! eh not quite keen on eating it. (blog credit: http://lifeasart215.blogspot.sg/2013/01/review-tony-moly-lip-tint-minis.html)

UNDEREYE BLUSH : Then the other thing worth mentioning is the blusher, the cutesy way of apply it. We used to put at the apples, if not just skip it. But now, its just under the eyes! (blog credit : http://memila.blogspot.sg/2013/06/undereye-blush.html)

So I attempted it today and viola!!! I must say I do look younger!! I need to redo my eyes to attempt the kawaii look but I like my Chinese slit eyes lei and after spending so much on lasik, its pretty silly to wear the big eye contacts right? Never mind I will the look try out without and see the outcome!

Here is me doing a quick 10 mins look, I really did a quick one coz its 1st day of school! Will try a more detailed one to refine some flaws :o!!

Skin:

Start by applying a Mary Kay foundation Primer  to create a moisturised canvas, minimised pores and lasting makeup. If you have oily complexion, apply a Mary Kay Oil Mattifier

Eyes:

Apply Mary Kay Black Pearl at the side to lengthen, and lower lash. Follow by a subtle application of Mary Kay Gold Coast to enhance lower lash and corner of eyes. Follow by Mary Kay Love Lash both top and bottom.

Cheeks
Apply blusher, I used Mary Kay Sheer Dimension Ribbon to the under eyes. Highlight undereye, nose bridge with Mary Kay Facial Highlighter

Lips
Apply Mary Kay True Dimension - Wild about Pink to lips and create the stained lips effect.

01012014

Wow I am finally back on my computer! Sorry for the lack of updates, I took a hiatus from blogging.  You know how sometimes you get stuck? Ya I had that for a while! It was emotionally draining and somehow lack the enthusiasm in life. I guess that is what we call a burnout issit it?

During the last 2 months, I took time out to travel by myself... just to give myself I deserve. Sometimes as mummies, the fact that we want to wear so many hats like everything, we forget the "ME" in the equation. After my travel, I took some time to go back to correct what had affected me. Praying, speaking to my coaches. Last but not least, I revised my course on mind control. For those who don't know yet, I am a graduate of The Silva Method. Sort of complicated to explain but if you are interested I can tell u in another post. It was just pure refreshing to go back and de-clutter the mind and Guess what, I just deleted all my photos from my hp, my camera, spent so much time organising my hard disk!!

My goals are clear for 2014, in fact very clear ! I can tell its going to me a crazy happening year!

Happy New Year and YES its great to be back!
