10 years ago

stumbled upon an article in yahoo news ... about sq 006 ten years ago


I owe you girls stories...

10 years ago today... I was a 21 years young girl, flew into Taipei from Los Angeles.  We touched down at at about afternoon time and our set of crew was all excited as it was Halloween, what a great opportunity to partyy!!! So we planned to take a nap and meet in the In flight Supervisor's room after dinner for some get together and to proceed to Hard Rock Cafe which was just next to our hotel.

Few of us girls met up for dinner and returned to our room to get dressed for the party, I remembered I had my TV on while I was putting on my makeup and saw a newsflash on a incident in the airport about our carrier. Calls were coming to my room as I was the unofficial party organizer... on what was up and if there a need to be in the room or not. I made a call my IFS, (my kaki) about the newsflash and on our imminent party plans, if it may be distrupted. Mr IFS answered his phone and turned on the TV (he was playing Chor dai ti with the senior crews), read the newsflash ... told us to go ahead as he didn't receive any calls on it and it may be a burst or missing tyre. (we crew are very optimistic people.. I swear!)

So about 8 of us left for HRC 1st as the other 4-5 was drinking in the room, playing cards and will meet us when the timing is about right (aka High). HRC was starting to get crowded and we met about 2-3 sets of our crew there, so we pooled together since it was Halloween and the occasion to get drunk. While downing and dancing away... the TV in the club (this being HRC, they and their sports channels and MTV) had a news flash and this time it stated 'SQ 006 bursted into flames". We looked at it and was like tail pipe fire maybe ... and continued.

After 30-45 mins later... the program stopped playing and was turned to news... we saw a reporter talking and a new flash that states that the aircraft broke into 3 parts! I swear at that moment I believe all the crew was real shocked, downed our jugs and was deciding if we should wait for the rest to come or go back to watch news. As we were finishing our drinks, it suddenly hit us... then one by one we started to run out of the club... There was about 20 of us running toward the hotel, my set of crew ran straight the IFS's room.

There it was, the room door was open real big, waiting for our arrival.... everyone else was there.

I can still remember the scenes on TV... The crew list was pulled out and there I saw my taiwanese batch girl's name... my heart dropped.

I'm tearing as I'm writing this as it did affect me much till today..

We stayed up the whole night...waiting for news, for calls to come in.. getting frustrated at the lack of information and the release of the crew list. I received calls from Singapore on my situation and I reported back about my safety. I even had calls from my taiwanese friend, my passenger turned good friend... getting all panicky about me.

At about 3-4am, I finally saw my batch gal's name on the safe list... but we were still missing people!! At this point, the fire was almost all extinguished and those whose name wasn't there had the slightest chance. I left the room at about 6am but I could not sleep... at all...I called all the hospitals to get hold of my batch gal...I knew I just had to find her. My Chief called me... he was missing his soccer buddy still, the more I was determined to find her... Every Sq crew didn't sleep that night, each found a crew on that flight to check on their work position and my batch gal and the 2 crew in upper deck was still missing.

I finally found her at 7-ish, for it took the relevant authorities awhile to get back to me. I made that call to her and boy did I cry!!!! She was sobbing so much when she heard my voice! screaming as she reiterated her story to me... had to ask her the inevitable.. where was the 2 crew upper deck with her... she clearly said she was the last to leave that aircraft in upper deck. She couldn't find anyone else..... in the midst of the crying, we arranged to meet up when she was ready the next day.

I then made that call to my chief who cried uncontrollably on the phone, for he was the one to break the news to his wife who entrusted him to find her, her husband. (he by the way had the honor to fly his buddy back).

Staying In Taipei for the next 4 days was torturing, I waited for my other batchmates to arrive to visit my batch girl together. She hasn't slept well and every time she shut her eyes, all she would see was that big ball of fire. That was the last time I saw my batch gal... for she never return to Singapore and stayed un contactable. I believe it hurt her much.....

We flew back after 4 days.. solemn. I sat in my seat, facing the runway, on my right was the debris of the aircraft.. my favourite Jumbo, nicely colored for the 50th anniversary.. totally couldn't control my tears, I believed everyone else too... Though I could still remember the warmth of the passengers on that flight... for they felt that lost too.

I wished I can write on what happen to them on that faithful night, but the chapter is closed. My lips has been shut for the longest time...

and I never celebrated halloween anymore....

just wanna brag

Just feeling like a proud mummy today... took her to the booth for face painting... 

was asked what she wanted, I decided on butterfly... and she was asked where? she pointed to her face... I was like sure? Was quite sure she would be wiggling in her seat... 

Was asked again by Queenie, the face painter and she pointed to her face, said "Face" and so it started.. By then I was damn sure she would be squirming at the feel of cold sponge with paint and may insist on stopping!

But I was so surprised that she sat there quietly, very sure that she shouldn't move too much, so as to achieve a perfect butterfly on her face, though she did held on to me quite tightly... 

I made a call to DD T who was at the far end of the hall and that he should come and watch his princess being drawn on... 

It was all over in about 1 min odd.... real quick hands this lady

Just want to brag you know, its just a mummy thing... to see your child behaving so confidently and got herself a real treat after..

Happeee Day... we r back

Wow!! It was great fun!


I set the alarm at 730 but snoozed till 830... keke, chop chop got all ready by 9pm and sat there waiting for the princess to stir...  but she didn't and so switched off the aircon, allowed some sunlight to fall on her face and hum "good morning" song... after some stretching, she sat on the bed smiling. So we knew its going to be a great day!!!

We reached there at about 10am, fantastic weather... never been to Hort Park and so we were introduced to it in a high note which gave us good vibes. The party was held downstairs in the function room and it was facing a nice lawn. We registered ourselves, signed a form something about photography and copyright, V had her temperature taken and we had our stickers to be identified as guests. Walked into the room and started to warm up, there were so many things going on... walked out and saw a buffet set up (which was great, food!) there was a massive looking bouncing castle. Decided to do what a singaporean would do and that was eat.. got ourselves a nice table away from the blasting speakers, near the buffet spread hehe. Fed V while she looked around in amusement... there was 2 guys sculpting balloons, few guys in their big costume a bear, a bugs bunny, a incredible hulk, some some dude in a flash outfit and some others which I cannot remember. She cried when she went up to hug the yellow bear.. and never was able to friend it again.

I went around to kaypo at what was to offer.. 1) ice cream , 2) cupcakes/brownies (sprinkles for the kids), 3) cookie decorating (icing provided, and they will help heat them with a oven), 4) cakes (self decorating), 5) face-painting, 6) caricature, 7) table for handcrafting, 8) photo developing booth, 9) dj console, 10) free balloon.. hmm think I got it all down. sounds interesting right???

Was great fun you know.. I went around to get namecards of the vendors, those I think would be useful in future and distributed mine too. Just for my Mummies Network Tea Party and the charity event we are planning in January (remember the one I mentioned about the birthday party but to charity instead) By that time , Ern and Brayden arrived... so the 3 mummies were getting excited about what we can do for ours!!

It started to drizzle a little and so we hung around at the table, taking turns to occupy the children. When the sun started to clear, we brought them out to run about on that beautiful lawn. There was some performance on the stage around 11am, dancing and juggling stuffs. We left at about 12 I believe, not sure, for lunch.

The event was really well done!! Great job to Daphne for the thought, for it was realy very meaningful and who was willing to pass us her list of vendors for our charity event! But I really must add, the children from the Children's Cancer Foundation must have had a blast!!!!!!!! When nobody cared how they looked or treated them indifferently, it was just a fun day! Ern's mummy prepared a bag of flowers to distribute to the kids and I swear both of us couldn't find the 30 sick children! They all looked normal... swear!  except for one who I spotted didn't have hair, told her and Ern gave him a flower... I was taking the photos, and I was sure the mom was touched by her gesture, for her eyes were welling up. Great job Ern and Shann!

Happeee day

We decided to make a trip there on sunday...  will be there at about 930-10am at Hort Park.. depends on what time princess V wants to wake up...

Meet us there if you are free this weekend, for its for good cause anyway...and its good to learn how they do it for I want to do one charity event myself soon .. I have such great group of mummies friends, and am SOOOOOOO sure they would want to help out.  I feel that I am getting quite good at organizing stuffs... getting people together... though people only (drawers and cuppiees are still very very messy.. I so need that helper)

7 habits

on my way after attending a course... 7 habits of highly effective people by Steven Covey... was in office from 930am -930pm... long hor?


I never expect in my lifetime that I would get to attend this course, am sure all of you have heard of him, especially those who studied management. You can buy his book if you are keen, it was written after observing and interviewing 500 successful people. In conclusion, he realized that these successful people have common traits and so came about his book on 7 habits of highly effective people. Steven Covey started to give talks around the world and charged the corporate accounts which means CEO, high management staffs 1-2 k per pax. So now you know what I mean by never did I expect to attend this course.

Of course, I didn't sit in his class but mine was conducted by our National Sales Director... Man I tell you its cheem.. then I actually realized I'm not of CEO calibre wahahha.. actually the only way to understand this is to attend it 7 or more times. I have people in that class who have attended 12 times!!! She travelled all around the world to attend this talk whenever its in that city. There will be another one next year.. so I wait.. hoped that by then I would have attained a certain level.

I sat there with alot of thoughts, may I stress that it was real difficult for me as it was conducted in mandarin and mine is half cup full. The words that were used were darn too cheem and killed many of my brain cells during the process. My very limited ability as I was writing my notes, from spoken mandarin to written english, as my cpu was real rusty. Come on since secondary school you know! Thank goodness I speak not too bad mandarin... language spoken 8, language written 5, language read 5

I remembered this one point which I would like to share, believe you will benefit from it too..
We were showed this video of this magnificent eagle flying.... eagles have a life span of up till 70 years... great isn't it? But at the age of 40, they will have to make a decision to live or die.. why, you may ask? Because at the age of 40, their beak will grow and curl in, the claws will too grow and curl in... at this point they will fly high up in the mountains and live in seclusion.... up in the mountains alone and with no food... since they have beaks that can't feed and claws that can't catch, its really up to the eagle's determination to survive.

During this 150 days alone, the eagle must knock its beak off slowly, day by day by day; so that a new one can grow, when it grows out it must use his beak to pull out its claws one by one, and pluck his feathers...  like omfg right!???? *faints.. I was curling in my seat... and when finally the eagle has the ability to do so, he will get this chance to live for another 30 years!!! I have damn great respect for the eagle now.

Do you have any feathers you will want to remove? so that you can survive your many years?  Think about it...

For me I was given this challenge, for I need to approach strangers on the road and chat with them, give out my name card, a sample and get them to try our product. contact them 2 days later and get them to review it. The challenge is to get rid of my 1 feather.. the zero ability to cold call.  I have to do this for 21 days straight... for after 21 days a habit of formed. Will update all of you once its complete...

My gal's issue

Woke up this morning.. Or rather she woke up 1st.. Played on her own while I slept more.. Did her dump so I was forced to wake up...

Got her into the showers, wrapped her up and brought her to dress up... I totally forgot to plan her clothes the night before, usually I will prepare 2 sets for her to chose.

So I started pulling her dresses one by one, there she was lying all wrapped up on the bed and Saying "no" to every single piece.. Pulled out her tops n bottoms and she said "no" to everything.. After showing her every single item that she had but still not pleased and so I repeated hoping she might change her mind..

But obviously she has the same issue as me.. A cuppie filled with clothes but nothing pleases.. Dangz

Lying In bed

I'm blogging while trying to put V to sleep...

I have a lot to write but V decides that she doesn't want to sleep, so be it... She is sitting next to me with her doodle set; doodling.. Draws some circles n tells me it's a cat.. Clears it , draws more circles n tells me it's a rabbit...keke

Then she decides to play some baby game, by draws alot on her doddle set, shows to me, asks "nice?" I answers "wow very nice" gives me a big laugh and shouts "BOO!!" I have been doing the same thing since 1 hour ago which us why I decide to blog while waiting for her to decide to wind down


I'm a proud mummy.. for she is darn smart.. she is working hard on her alphabets.. cuteness

Idea...

Had lunch with my gf yday...

She suggested that we should hold tea parties for ladies to shop for her shop clothes, me to teach makeup.. Bascically things to do with women and especially for mummies...

After being stuck at home all these times with V when she was younger, I have rely to shopping online, or asking friends to shop for me for honest, lugging a child to shopping has absolutely too many logistics and I can't buy shit when the husband is there... *frowns

So I have inevitably become a direct sales person, this is what you mean by circumstances changes one. Shipping online, sprees, BP, FB has become part of me, asking me to go and window shop is no longer my cup of tea.

I remembered last year when I was in Sydney for Xmas and saw how the Aussies survived motherhood. Trev's couz, Dave and his wife are both in the policeforce, ever since Kai was born... Riannan changed to working in the office (still police) for 2 days a week. I envied her and her lifestyle for she had that option of doing that.. A great balance of sanity n motherhood... guess in Singapore such things don't exist much unless you are working in an American company or a damn understanding boss.

While we were there, Riannan hosted us and she had a Tupperware party for her friends. There I saw how capable mummies there were and how they kept their sanity by attending parties and had opportunities to deplete their children of the energy. I was so impressed by it, told DD T that Singapore really sucked in this. In Australia, due to the fact that nannies service, maid are expensive, family do not stay around the area to help out.. They do really rely on their networks to survive .

I came back Singapore with a different mindset, from then, I started buying things from mummies or women making it a effort to survive by not wanting to feel worthless.

I decided to use my blog as a platform 1st, just to try it out... Any mummies/women out there who wants to join in my event that I'm planning... A tea party just for us to chill, talk shop, talk family... Really to shop for quality products, handmade or specially sourced.

Targetted day for tea party (sori not like Fire disco ) is 1st week of December. Please do contact me.. It's really something to create awarness for you business.. Or my readers to see me? Wahahaha

Guest Event

I keep getting questions on what I'm doing... 


I'm getting real busy these 2 weeks to actually sit down and blog about it, coz I can't breathe with the many fantastic happening to me recently. I just can say I am really appreciative on what is happening to me.... DD T has been called in to bring V to school on Friday for I can't bring her! hahaha... lucky I have the most supportive husband ever! I will blog about him and his ever loving ways of supporting me at this.. his words and actions really touched me in many ways and allow me to keep on going.

Today was Mummy duties in the day, waited for DD T to come back with dinner, left at 7pm for a meeting at the office, ate supper with the girls, came back did some paper work which I have been neglecting, showered and now blogging. Housework gotta wait till the weekends...  this week and next is packed full! I wrote out my weekly plan and officially gave myself sunday OFF in bold and red! hahaha....

But I decided to sit down and write a post to ask if anyone is interested in attending a guest event on 27th Oct at 7pm, Mary Kay Office. Speakers are National Sales Director Grace Kao and Executive Sales Director Dawn Chia. I tried googling them but I think the names should reflect in chinese.. I'm a dummy when it comes to this.

I was lucky enough to meet her in Kul when I was there for the seminar... I was told yesterday that I have a meeting with her next tuesday for my career path mapping.. so darn exciting!!

Playclub bears song



Sorry about the lightening... there was a storm

Got this playclub cd from JG when she was in her nest days, but she didn't like it. Found it again and played for her 3 days ago and she loves it!! and only this song... so its on repeat mode for about an hour.. yes u guessed it , she never gets sick but I'm vomiting already! the song is 1 min = 60 times in a day... oh well!

Feeling FAT

that day I was looking at myself in the mirror after my shower... I swear I DO NOT HAVE A WAIST!!!!

I used to have a waist.. I really used to have a fantastic waist.. c'mon I use to wear the world tightest uniform known to human kind! Coz I have big hips, yes I do hate my hips but its because of it I DO have a nice waist... but now, its straight with a slight curve *rolls eyes 360*

Its back to dieting... roars!!! I just started applying my cellu shape lotion which I sort of neglected after I saw some improvement on my tummy and arms. Damnz, you really can't be lazy after 30 years old huh!!! The pants feels snug now,  I feel frumpy.... *Dangz

I so want to eat diet pills... or even diet.. then the whole bloody world I happen to talk to, whether on MSN or FB tells me No dieting for I'm preparing the body for 2nd one and so I must eat healthy... So if I chat you online, TELL ME TO NOT EAT Ks!!! the day I get pregnant then I eat properly okie, now I just eat nominal and have a bad temper wahahha. Please be nice to me if I start irritating you....

Changi Beach Club

Needed to get away from the hustle and bustle of town...

Just one of those sundays of chilling out, had a tough week with DD T away on a business trip, me shuttling about for meetings, classes (both hers and mine), housework. Doesn't help that she has been waking up at the godforsaken timings to drink milk *yawns* so I have been tired and feeling fat (coz lack of sleep makes me bloated hahahhaha)

DD T was also tired from the flight and wanted to do something not taxing like going to the malls to fight with space. I decided that we should go Changi Beach Club for lunch... food wasn't fantastic but we did enjoy the peace and quiet of the restaurant. V got to run about and had a bowl of ice + jelly only ice kachang. After 2 hours of quiet time, I decided we should go nature trail walk around Changi.









I swear the creepy crawlies in Changi must be monster like, for the sounds they make *gross*. I'm not a fan of nature, DD T not so much too but he was bragging about his army days. Well at this point, V turned around and said "HOT", asked her if she wants to continue the walk, shook her head "NO, HOT". The fishermen nearby was laughing at her "PEDAS HUH?" hahha

20 months

Over dued post

Teething: its back!!!!! and its so not not not not funny how tough this round is going to be... THE MOLARS! like omg lor... the whingeing is back, the sudden cries are back, the I don't want to sleep coz it hurts are back, the this hurts my gums so I'm on food strike is back... so its off to get tubes of bonjela.

Teething is paired with separation anxiety but hey we are so damn forgiving this round for eh molars you know.. so I think it will last at least 3 months since its 4 pieces right... yawns. She insists on eating her snacks every where, think its comforting, raisins works to for what reason I'm not so sure.

We have not been sleeping well for she wakes up once in the night for her feeds .. yawns

Talking: She has started to speak in sentences like "I will read my book" and can count 1-10. That one night, she was crawling on the bed and she was going "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10" DD T looked and me "Do you think she is very clever for her age to be able to do that?" I was like "Hmm I really don't know... She is my 1st child remember, nobody to compare with?" Its darn interesting how the words are coming out.. there was one time she said "WO BU YAO", we stopped what we did and told her "eh where the chinese coming from huh?" There is the answering back at us which is very funny at times. may get frustrating soon.

Reading: She has her box of books that I finally pulled out, she will go and sit down to flip all of them just before her sleep time since we are hardly at home nowadays. She has a box in every house.. each about 20 books.. Eh I bought very little coz I'm super fussy keke must be rhyming and I read every book for the structure of the sentences and all that crap la, the rest all passed down. Found her hand me down tiny flash cards that she so like to play with, like poker cards keke.

Our Sunday

Had lunch with my old collegues and their daughter...

It was great as it's been a while since we caught up with each other and even better this round as we brought our kids out for them to play with each other. Hayley is about 6 years old, attends Lorna Whistion Kindergarten talking to her was real pleasant as she speaks so well and presents herself real confidently. There was this priceless moment when the server came to give them some toys and she bluntly asked "Are these from China?" You should have seen the parents, they were hiding their heads under their table, while me n DD T was guffawing away for it was so
A-oh-funny!! The server looked at the tiny cars that she was carrying with the biggest question mark hovering over her head and left quietly while DD T was left with the task to help Hayley check the make out. I swear it was a priceless moment when DD T said that it was made in China, she jumped off her seat and chased after the server and shouted "my parents said no to China made toys!" and it was a full restaurant, her voice very the loud.... Kekekkee

As I was giggling over Hays loud exclamation, I knew we were on the way for such behaviour when V turns older o.O The parents finally stopped hiding and explained her behaviour as they have been more particular about her selection of toys ever since the paint toxic scare in toys.

While our lunch date dragged till tea, it was real fun catching up and even better when we as parents think so alike in the upbringing of our children.

Great day

Today is a fantastic day!! Woke up to a awesome SMS from cousin David, that twins Charlotte Ellen Lipman born 1250 & Zachary Peter Lipman born 1255 made their entrance finally!!

Wasn't it nice to wake up to such great SMS? Oh btw they are siblings to Kai, remember him the blond aussie one that came over few months back? He is a December baby which makes him 1 month older and now 2 siblings elder.

Decided to make the day even better by visiting Ophe in hospital, was craving to carry Chace... Come on which mummy doesn't have this crave??



Here is Chace, handsome little guy and best of all, he received a kiss from V today.. Sweet!

Dinner with the mummies

just came back from our dinner together. 

It was our monthly dinner that I would organized to catch up, eat, talk nonsense. Didn't do one last month as I was on holiday and got a bit lazy with the watching of my DVDs.  There was one day Serene ask me when was dinner for this month as she was yearning for the pizza that I blogged on. Asked around and managed to get few regulars to meet up (with cars) as the joint was a little way off the Mrt stations.

Sms-ed Ophe in the morning to check on situation since she was already 3cm dilated...

"Morning, signs of labour yet?'
"Morning dear!!! Just lost the mucous plug only hahah but no contractions yet! should be okie for dinner."

So we proceeded with dinner despite not getting and answers to my sms from the rest as they were busy at work. But Mummy Ophe needed a great meal with like minded friends like us for dinner!!! The dinner was filled with stories of labour, confinement, schools, choosing of new house, maids, our child's current developments etc... the usual stories and we never get sick of repeating.

But the dinner ended with a bang when Ophe felt uncomfortable and went to the washroom and announced that she think her water bag leak for the liquid was flowing constantly. It got us all so excited!!! Reminded us like 2 years ago when it happened and after much encouragements and hugs later, she was whisked off by Ange back home to get ready.



We got excited and took a picture before she left... One for the road!! Can't wait for Chace to be out....

Saturday afternoon

Our Saturday.. Was supposed to lunch at Amici Holland V but the parking was terrible and so I decided that we should go Serene centre. To Introduce DD T to V's latest favourite joint...







It's our 3rd visit this week! Like you can see, very much approved by both of them... Kekeke the chef was all excited to see us again as I told her yesterday V is a big fan of her food! Promised to bring the hb soon and I did ermm like real soon. It's really great place for French cuisine at a fantastic price, I get my fix of foie gras and best part she loves the place, regardless in the aircon or alfresco.

After the meal, we went around for a walk to cluny court since shopping at Serene centre sux... Bought for V a personalized swim wear top with upf 50 at $49.95, will blog it when I collect it. Got me a funky dress n top at a steal then stumbled on 3 Inch Sin... DD T had his fix of molten cake n vanilla ice cream.







Since V can't eat sweet stuffs, I bought her a packet of biscotti while we try to hide eating our dessert from her. But of course fail la, so gave a little tasting of the vanillla.

Walked back to get the car and told DD T about the fantastic icecream (n cheap) at island creamery! So he ordered a banana ice cream with cone at $2.90, yes just after his molten cake.







V finally fell asleep as I'm blogging in the car, me feeling woosy with my lunch, dessert n hot sun.. We did a detour to go back to the grands n snooze. Opps but hey tats what weekends are all about....

(Update: came home and realized I left my buys in Island creamery... so went back there again after church and got ourselves; me- nutella, DD- reverso-o) oh like what lame excuse to go back there right!
